2 More Tahoe Ski Resorts Close Amid Record-Breaking Heatwave
Several Tahoe resorts are closing early amid record temperatures. Plenty still remain open - for now.

LAKE TAHOE, CA — Skiing isn’t exactly the first activity that comes to mind when it’s 90 degrees outside. Amid a historic March heat wave, two more Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts announced an early end to the season.
Sierra-at-Tahoe, a resort located just south of the lake, announced Wednesday on Instagram that Sunday would be its last day of the season. “We’re currently seeing near-record temperatures, and as you can see behind me, the snow is melting fast,” said Bryan Hickman, Sierra-at-Tahoe operations director, standing in front of a mountain full of patchy snow. “Our team’s been doing an amazing job keeping everything alive ... but sometimes Mother Nature just wins.”
In 2025, Sierra-at-Tahoe closed on April 21, a full month later than in 2026.

Several other Tahoe resorts are also closing down early. Homewood Mountain Resort, on the lake’s West Shore, said that Tuesday was its final day of the 2025-26 season. “Our snowpack is rapidly dwindling. The safety of our guests and employees is always our top priority, and the safest option is to close today,” the resort said on Instagram.
Dodge Ridge Mountain Resort closed Sunday, saying that they hope to resume operations if they receive significant snowfall. So far, meteorologists have not predicted significant precipitation at the end of the month.

Mount Shasta Ski Park closed Saturday, and offered season pass holders a rollover credit for next year’s season.
Tahoe Donner Downhill Ski Resort will also close Sunday, March 22, and is throwing a Members Ski Free Day and Sun Deck Party with a DJ, food, and drinks on Friday.
Diamond Peak said that it plans to close soon, but hasn’t decided an exact date as of Thursday.
Ski bums can take solace, however: Tahoe resorts like Heavenly, Sugar Bowl, Kirkwood, Northstar, Boreal, Donner, Mt. Rose, and Palisades-Tahoe all remain open for the time being.
