2 Paragliders Crash In San Francisco In 2 Days: Fire Department
Firefighters responded to a glider crash at Fort Funston in southwest SF on Saturday, the second such incident in the area in two days.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Firefighters responded to a glider crash at Fort Funston in southwestern San Francisco on Saturday, the second such incident in the area in two days.
The pilot was taken to a local trauma center after being rescued from the beach between Fort Funston and Sloat Avenue about 3 p.m., the San Francisco Fire Department said on social media.
The location is about five miles north of Mussel Rock in Daly City, where a paraglider was injured when he crashed into the face of a cliff about 6:50 p.m. Friday.

North County Fire Authority had to rescue the 59-year-old pilot from a point about 400 feet from the top of a cliff overlooking the Pacific.
Updrafts over the coastal bluffs make the region popular with hang gliders and paragliders. Fort Funston, part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, features a hang glider viewing platform.

Winds at Fort Funston on Saturday were reported as westerly at 17 mph, with gusts of 24 mph.
