24 Inmates Earn High School Diploma Or GED

To make this feel-good story even better -- they all want to go to college.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Twenty-four inmates in the San Francisco County jail have earned high school diplomas or GEDs, sheriff's officials said.

Furthermore, all 24 of them want to go to college. Those who have to remain in jail plan to take classes through the community college system, which brings classes to the jail.

Sheriff's officials said education plays a big role in keeping former inmates from offending again.
