5 People Injured in Hit-and-Run Crashes in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Five people have been injured, two of them seriously, in hit-and-run collisions in San Francisco since Saturday, police said.

In one crash early Monday morning, a pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries in the South of Market neighborhood after a car running a red light sent a vehicle spinning into the crosswalk. The crash occurred around 1:20 a.m. at Third and Mission streets, where the suspect vehicle struck the victim vehicle in the intersection.

The crash caused the vehicle that had been struck to spin out and hit a 43-year-old woman who was crossing in the crosswalk, according to police.

Three suspects fled the scene on foot, leaving their vehicle behind, police said.

The pedestrian was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries while two men in the victim vehicle, ages 39 and 42, suffered less serious injuries, police said.

Two pedestrians were also injured in an earlier hit-and-run crash in San Francisco's Westwood Highlands neighborhood Saturday evening.

That collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. at Valdez Avenue and Monterey Boulevard, where a suspect vehicle struck a 64-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man as they crossed the street, police said.

The vehicle fled the scene, leaving the woman with life-threatening injuries and the man with less serious injuries.

No arrests have been reported in either collision as of this morning.
