77-Year-Old Man Killed In Random Attack At SF Store

Two other people were injured in the attack. Police made one arrest.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — An elderly man killed in an apparent random attack at a 7-Eleven convenience store in San Francisco's Visitacion Valley neighborhood on Tuesday morning has been identified as 77-year-old Richard Owens.

Police said an arrest has been made in connection with the killing, which occurred around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 2200 block of Bayshore Boulevard. The name of the suspect was not immediately available Wednesday.

Officers had responded Tuesday and found a store employee and two other people injured. The employee and one of the other victims were taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries, while Owens was pronounced dead at the scene.

Supervisor Shamann Walton, whose district includes the area where the killing occurred, said, "It is heartbreaking to see this type of senseless violence on the seniors in our community."

Walton said he is working with police and other city departments "to prevent violent incidents like this from happening to our community and to our seniors."
