Alleged Drug Dealer Accused Of Assaulting Police Faces Felony Charges

Fernando Castro Torres was arrested for allegedly possessing 21.6 grams of fentanyl and other narcotics.

SAN FRANCISCO — A 19-year-old San Francisco resident is facing felony charges for alleged drug dealing and assault of a police officer, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office announced on Friday.

On Dec. 16, Fernando Castro Torres was arrested for allegedly possessing 21.6 grams of fentanyl and other narcotics. In an effort to flee, police said the suspect drove against traffic from Franklin to Ellis streets on Olive Street.

One officer and multiple vehicles were hit by the suspect's vehicle, said police.

A minor passenger was also arrested for allegedly possessing 169.4 grams of narcotics.

Castro Torres faces up to 10 years in state prison if convicted of felony assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest and possessing fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine to sell. He also faces misdemeanor charges relating to reckless driving and driving without a license.

"Fernando Castro Torres will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and held accountable for his crimes and reckless behavior that needlessly put police officers in danger as well as countless pedestrians and motorists," said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. "This case provides one more example of the significant risks that drug dealers pose in our city and serves as a reminder as to why we must do everything in our power to restore public safety and accountability."
