SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Your doctor's office could be owned by Amazon, after the company this week acquired primary care provider One Medical.

The Seattle-based digital marketplace giant announced Wednesday it had completed its acquisition of the company headquartered in San Francisco, which offers in-office and virtual care, as well as on-site labs. The deal was $3.9 billion, according to CNBC, which reported One Medical has roughly 200 offices and 815,000 members.

“If you fast forward 10 years from now, people are not going to believe how primary care was administered,” Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in a news release about the acquisition.

“Customers want and deserve better, and that’s what One Medical has been working and innovating on for more than a decade. Together, we believe we can make the health care experience easier, faster, more personal, and more convenient for everyone.”

One Medical is offering memberships at $144 for the first year (regularly $199), which include insurance navigation, referral management, and access to an app that offers on-demand video chats, secure messaging, prescription renewals and other services. The company accepts most major insurance plans, the news release said, and offers same- and next-day visits as well as walk-in lab services.
