That was a runner-up prize. No one won the jackpot which grows to $640 million for Saturday's drawing.

BAY AREA — No one won the jackpot in Wednesday's multi-state Powerball drawing, but two lucky ticket holders here in California each won $2,768,497. The tickets were purchased in San Jose and San Diego.

The Bay Area winner was sold by Paul's Market at 412 E. Empire St. near downtown San Jose.

The two winning tickets each matched the first five numbers drawn but missed the Powerball. The runner-up prizes are unusually high, but California has a parimutuel betting system, which means the winning tickets get a percentage of the amount of money spent on ticket purchases. Ticket sales are especially high right now because of the huge jackpot.
