Bay Bridge Shooting Prompts Eastbound Closure
The shut down snarled the Friday morning commute, causing a standstill from end-to-end on the bridge.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The Friday morning commute was ugly for drivers trying to cross the Bay Bridge from San Francisco to the East Bay. It was completely shut down for a time following a shooting that was witnessed by a California Highway Patrol officer.
The car-to-car shooting was near the toll plaza on the Oakland side.
The CHP officer, on the westbound side of the toll plaza, heard gunshots about 6:45 a.m., the CHP said.

At one point, all lanes of traffic were at a standstill from the toll plaza across the entire span of the bridge to San Francisco.
Commuters who use the San Mateo Bridge had extra company as drivers looked for an alternate route.
