Beach Bonfire Season Starts Friday
There are 16 fire rings at San Francisco's Ocean Beach.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Beachgoers will be able to again enjoy bonfires at San Francisco's Ocean Beach starting Friday.
Visitors can use one of 16 fire rings that are set up on the beach between Fulton Street and Lincoln Way, according to officials from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which has jurisdiction over the beach.
People who want to use the fire rings must bring their own firewood and are not allowed to burn treated wood or trash. Use of the rings is free and they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups of 25 people or more are required to apply for a permit before using the rings.

The Ocean Beach bonfire season starts at the end of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's winter no-burn period and runs until Oct. 31.
Fires are allowed from 6 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. and must be doused with water.

During the winter months, wood smoke is the largest source of air pollution in the Bay Area, according to air district officials.
