The Nourse Theatre was built in 1926 and was part of the High School of Commerce. It was designed in the Spanish Revival style and used to host events and assemblies for students until it was closed in 1952. From 1952 to 1985, the theatre was occasionally used for concerts and pageants. However, after 1985, it was repurposed as a courtroom, featuring advanced technology with computers linked to a Texas mainframe. Its public use ceased at this time. In 2013, the theatre was revived by Sydney Goldstein, founder of the City Arts and Lectures program, to host the program in place of its previous venue, the Herbst Theatre.
