Save Soil Walkathon SF — Free Family Walk at Crissy Field

Save Soil Walkathon SF — Free Family Walk at Crissy Field

Event Details

1199 E Beach, San Francisco, CA 94129

The Save Soil Walkathon is a free, family-friendly community walk happening in San Francisco as part of a coordinated 38+ city movement across the US and Canada this spring. It's a one-hour stroll along one of the most beautiful stretches of the SF waterfront, with the Golden Gate Bridge as the backdrop.

Why we're walking: Soil is the quiet foundation of nearly everything we eat, drink, and breathe — and it's disappearing fast. Over half of the world's topsoil has been lost in the last 150 years. The UN's FAO warns that 90% of the world's soils could be degraded by 2050. One teaspoon of healthy soil holds more living organisms than there are people on Earth.

The Save Soil movement is a global awareness campaign backed by the UN's FAO, UNEP, UNCCD, WFP, and IUCN. The SF event is organized by local parent volunteers — no fundraising, no sales pitch, just a chance to walk together and put soil on the map for your neighbors and your kids.

What to expect:

  • Free, all ages, all welcome
  • One-hour walk along Crissy Field
  • A few simple, hands-on soil displays for kids
