Stroll through the Garden and delight in the sights and sounds of Balinese gamelan. Gamelan Sekar Jaya returns to San Francisco Botanical Garden for our annual Gamelan in the Garden. This year, Sekar Jaya's ensembles will be performing in three different locations throughout the Garden.

1-1:30pm - Gender Wayang in the Fountain Plaza (free with admission)

Music for the Balinese shadow puppet theater (wayang) is provided by four musicians playing ten-keyed gender-one of Bali's most technically challenging yet rewarding instruments.

1:30-2:20pm - Jegog in the Great Meadow (free with admission)

Originating from Western Bali, it is an orchestra of bamboo marimbas, with keys (tubes) ranging from small to gigantic. The largest tubes, up to three meters long, are used for the bass jegogan, for which the ensemble is named.
