Coast Guard Rescues 3 When Sailboat Loses Mast At Sea
The Namaste was about 100 miles west of San Francisco when it made the distress call.
SAN FRANCISCO — A 42-foot sailboat with three people aboard had to be towed to San Francisco after losing its mast at sea in poor weather, the U.S. Coast Guard said Saturday.
The Namaste was about 100 miles west of San Francisco when it made a distress call received at Coast Guard Sector San Francisco about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The Cutter Tern and a twin-engine C-27 Spartan surveillance aircraft from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento were dispatched to the scene. The Tern reached the vessel about 7 p.m., the Coast Guard said.

At the Golden Gate, the sailboat was turned over to a 47-foot motor lifeboat about 4 a.m. Thursday. The crew from Station Golden Gate towed the Namaste to port in San Francisco.
There were no reported injuries, the Coast Guard said.
