'Endlessly Generous': Apple Engineer Killed In Golden Gate Boat Crash Remembered As Loving Father

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Whenever a friend needed help, Daniel Zhengyu Qin was always there, ready to lend a hand, according to his friend, Cathy Wu.

Now, his friends are the ones showing up.

Zhengyu, 35, was on a fishing trip with two other men on Sept. 17, when their 25-foot boat struck rocks and capsized near the Golden Gate Bridge.

Zhengyu, who suffered cardiac arrest, later died, while a second passenger remained in critical condition and the third was in stable condition, San Francisco fire officials said.

Why the boat crashed into the rocks remains under investigation.

Zhengyu, an Apple engineer, was a devoted husband and father who was "endlessly generous" and got along with everyone effortlessly, Wu said in a fundraiser she started to help the 35-year-old's family.

"His children looked up to him, and his friends adored him," Wu said. "He was always the first to show up when anyone needed help — whether it was passing along his kids' outgrown things to other families, sharing the fish he caught on his fishing trips, or simply lending a hand whenever a friend was in need."

Wu leaves behind his wife, Yao Deng, and his three children, ages 11, 9 and 3, according to the fundraiser.

The fundraiser will help Zhengyu's family pay for funeral costs, a memorial, emergency family expenses and his children's day-to-day living costs.

So far, the fundraiser has raised $64,615 out of its $170,000 goal.
