Historic SF Restaurant Closes After More Than 50 Years: Report

The restaurant had served everyone from famous musicians to former presidents, according to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The Waterfront Restaurant, a renowned eatery along San Francisco's popular Pier 7, has closed after more than 50 years in business, according to a report by the San Francisco Chronicle.

The restaurant was on a month-to-month lease agreement with the Port of San Francisco after its original lease expired in December 2024, according to the report.

It's unclear exactly why it closed or chose not to continue with the lease agreement. As of this past weekend, a sign hung on the door that said: "Permanently closed for business. Thank you for visiting. We apologize for the inconvenience," according to the report.
