Free Movies Are Returning To San Francisco's Union Square

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Free movies are coming to Union Square this month as part of a series to help reenergize Downtown San Francisco.

The series kicks off Saturday at sunset with a screening of "KPop Demon Hunters," a group of K-pop superstars who live double lives as demon hunters to protect their fans.

"With incredible shopping and exciting free activities, Union Square is coming alive," San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said in a statement. "Expanding ‘Cinema on the Square’ will bring even more energy."

Pre-show activities will be available a few hours before the movie begins, including performances and a bar. Officials recommend bringing low beach chairs, blankets and warm layers.

The rest of the series schedule is as follows:

• "The Bird Cage" — June 27
• "The Princess Diaries" — July 25
• "Pokémon Detectives Pikachu" — Aug. 29
• "The Conversation" — Sept. 26

"‘Cinema on the Square’ is quickly becoming a new San Francisco tradition that we can all look forward to experiencing," District 3 Supervisor Danny Sauter said. "It's sure to be an activity that draws thousands of residents and visitors to our downtown center to experience the best of our city and celebrate arts and cinema."
