SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The number of shootings on Bay Area freeways has risen each year since 2019, according to a report from NBC Bay Area.
NBC Bay Area examined California Highway Patrol data of freeway shootings and found both shootings and deaths on Bay Area highways have been rising, while arrests for these shootings are declining.
David V. Nguyen, a 28-year-old academy recruit with the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, was killed Tuesday after someone shot into his car on I-580 West.

Interstate Highways 80 and 580 have had the most shootings reported since 2019, according to the NBC Bay Area data analysis.
Their report showed there were 50 injuries and 6 deaths from freeway shootings in 2019, compared to 62 injuries and 8 deaths in 2021.
