16 Treated Following Gas Leak In San Francisco

The gas leak has been capped. The evacuation order should end in less than an hour.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco Fire Department reports that 16 people have been injured in a natural gas leak in the 1000 block of Polk. Two people were treated at the scene, while 14 were transported to hospitals. Their injuries are considered non-life threatening.

Evacuations are still in place, although the flow of gas has been stopped.

PG&E crews are at the scene to deal with the situation, along with police officers and firefighters. The fire department anticipates that the evacuation order will be lifted within the hour.

The fire department reports that a construction crew ruptured a two inch gas main.

There are fire trucks and police cars blocking the street. Avoid the area, if possible.
