SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco Giants have hired Gabe Kapler to be its new manager, the team announced Tuesday evening.

Kapler managed the Philadelphia Phillies the previous two seasons, finishing with records of 80-82 and 81-81 in back-to-back years before being fired in October. He will replace Bruce Bochy, who retired after a 13-year run in the dugout complete with three World Series wins.

"Our top priority in the next manager was to find someone who can build strong relationships with our players, coaches, front office and fans, and someone who has the drive and desire to win," Giants President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi said in a statement.

Prior to his front office and managerial roles, Kapler played 12 MLB seasons. He won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox in 2004, that franchise's first title since 1918, hitting .276 in a career-high 136 games.
