A Heartfelt Symbol Of Hope: San Francisco Photo Of The Day
Hotel Nikko SF chose purple, the hospitality industry's "official" color, to send a message of support to workers affected by coronavirus.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Hotel Nikko San Francisco on Friday illuminated its exterior in purple — the "official" color of the hospitality industry — to send a symbol of hope and encouragement to workers whose livelihoods are upended by closures due to the coronavirus.
“The hospitality industry has been one of the hardest hit sectors during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Anna Marie Presutti, the hotel's general manager. “We wanted to shine a light to show our support and solidarity for our colleagues in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.”
The color purple — a blend of "luxurious, confident red and relaxing, comforting blue" — was chosen to represent the hospitality and tourism trade, according to a trade publication's coverage of the San Francisco Travel Association.

Hotel Nikko, located in Union Square, joined such Bay Area landmarks as San Francisco City Hall, Coit Tower, the San Francisco International Airport, Oracle Park and the Winchester Mystery House, all bathed in purple.
On Easter Sunday, Hotel Nikko’s management also presented food and toiletry kits to its staff. Employees could drive through the site's porte-cochère area, and the leadership team loaded the kits into vehicle trunks.
