Heat Advisory And Spare The Air Alert Issued For Bay Area

The heat advisory lasts through 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Coastal areas from Mendocino County down to the Central Coast will see some relief from high heat on Monday, but a heat advisory was extended by the National Weather Service over the weekend until midweek for interior areas.

A Spare the Air Alert was also issued by the Bay Area Air District for Sunday and Monday. The advisory warns of unhealthy air quality for certain populations because of high ozone levels, which are created when smog stays stagnant at lower altitudes because of weather conditions.

The advisory prohibits burning waste or operating wood burning appliances inside and outside.

Most coastal areas will see temperatures retreat to the high 70s after reaching into the mid 80s over the weekend. But Bayside areas of San Mateo County and the counties of Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, and North Bay will see temperatures reach into the 90s and as high as triple digits.

The Weather Service advised limiting outdoor activity during the advisory and staying hydrated. Do not leave pets or people in vehicles, even with windows open.
