Heroes Jump Onto Tracks To Save Unconscious BART Passenger: WATCH

An unconscious man was sprawled on the tracks at San Francisco's Civic Center station as a train approached.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Amidst cries of "Watch the third rail!" and "Stop the train!" - passengers disregarded their own safety to jump from the platform onto the tracks at a San Francisco BART station to help a man who had fallen and was sprawled in the path of an approaching train.

The drama unfolded at the Civic Center station Monday afternoon, BART officials said.

While some passengers helped the fallen man, others ran up the platform yelling and waving to alert the operator in the oncoming train, and many dialed 911 to seek help.

According to BART officials, the train operator hit the emergency stop button and the train came to a stop one car into the station, and several car lengths away from the man.

Power was cut in the area and BART police responded within minutes.

The man received supportive services, BART officials said.
