Jewelry Store Robber Faces Up To 22 Years In Prison After Conviction

Michael Alexis is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 2.

SAN FRANCISCO — A man accused of being part of a 2017 jewelry store heist is facing up to 22 years in state prison after a San Francisco jury found him guilty last week of eight criminal counts.

The jury convicted Michael Alexis, 57, of second-degree robbery, false imprisonment and assault with a semiautomatic firearm among other things, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said Monday.

The charges stem from an Aug. 8, 2017 robbery at Elite Fine Jewelry in Pacific Heights, during which Alexis and his accomplices took more than $1 million in merchandise, which was never recovered.

"The victims were extraordinarily patient and cooperative throughout this prosecution, appearing at numerous hearings over the last five years, and now, with justice done, can begin to move on from this horrific trauma," Assistant District Attorney Sheila Johnson said in a news release Monday.

Alexis, who has been in custody since his arrest in 2017, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 2.
