(Former) Colin Kaepernick Fan Burns Jersey After National Anthem Snub: Watch
Watch one fan's reaction after the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers refused to stand during the national anthem Friday night.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Colin Kaepernick’s decision to sit during the national anthem Friday night has sparked a firestorm— literally— of passionate reactions from sports fans across the country. One in particular has circulated via social media millions of times since it was posted Saturday.
After the game, Kaepernick told NFL Media the reason he sat had to do with oppression and police brutality.
The next day, a San Francisco 49ers fan in Louisiana posted a video of himself as he ignited Kaepernick’s jersey. The video denouncing Kaepernick appears to have resonated with many sports fans who disagree with Kaepernick’s choice of protest.

Louisiana resident Shane White said he heard about Kaepernick’s Friday evening political statement on ESPN.
“He says he’s oppressed making $126 million dollars,” White said. “Well, Colin here’s my salute to you…”

White goes on to light the jersey on fire while the anthem plays in the background. White removes his hat, stands at attention and salutes as the jersey becomes fully engulfed in flames.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color," Kaepernick told NFL Media in an exclusive interview after the game. "To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder."
The quarterback, who is biracial, was adopted and raised by a white family. He quotes Scottish movie producer Iain Smith on his Twitter profile, “Do not underestimate the determination of a quiet man.”
Kaepernick’s political statement was anything but quiet.
