Traffic Headaches Expected During Weekend Closure Of Major Bay Area Freeway
The freeway will be shut down as Caltrans crews continue to work on a major revitalization project, officials said.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Traffic will be impacted on the I-80 Freeway over the next two weekends as construction will take place along the interstate.
The Fourth Street off-ramp on the Eastbound I-80 Freeway will be closed starting Friday. It won't reopen until Monday.
Next weekend, however, will be when the real threat of traffic looms. The Eastbound I-80 will be closed completely from Fourth to 17th streets from Friday, April 17, through Monday, April 20.

"Each project will receive major repaving and rehabilitation, helping create safer, smoother driving experiences for everyone who drives to, from, and in and around the San Francisco Bay Area," according to Caltrans.
In this case, Caltrans crews will complete an overhaul of decks and bridge rails, adding polyester overlay and reconstructing joints along the I-80 Freeway, officials said. Detours will be put in place.
The Fab 4 Rehab project began in late 2025 and is expected to continue through 2028.
