Kenworthy graduated in 2021 from New York University, where he studied theater and politics. He earned a law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 2024. At the time of his death, he was working as a law clerk in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to an obituary published online.
"Nick had an unusually incisive understanding of and memory for story, whether told by Chekhov, Shakespeare, a Supreme Court justice, his lifelong friend, or a brand new acquaintance. He was quick to help others in any need. He was an avid outdoorsman and, in addition to skiing, he hiked, camped, kayaked, sailed, and used all the crafts he learned as a Boy Scout," the obituary reads.
Kenworthy is one of several people who have died at California ski resorts this year.
A skier died at Mammoth Mountain last week while attempting one of the steepest marked trails in California. He fell, popped out of his skis and slid headfirst for hundreds of yards down the mountain, according to the Los Angeles Times.
That came after three other deaths at Mammoth this season. Among them was a 30-year-old ski patroller who died after becoming stuck in an avalanche.
