NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — As a new week begins, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for a great week.

But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should expect slightly cooler temperatures following the weekend heat wave, according to the National Weather Service.

"Temperatures near to slightly above seasonal averages with a slight cooldown midweek," NWS Bay Area forecasters wrote Monday.

In other news, the Point Fire in Sonoma County remains 85% contained and holding at 1,207 acres, according to Cal Fire. Three structures were destroyed and two were damaged in the blaze.

A pedestrian who tried to retrieve his dog from traffic on a Bay Area highway was struck and killed by a vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A woman who was jogging on a North Bay trail was the victim of an attempted sexual assault, authorities said. The suspect is wanted for assault to commit rape.
