Meet an “Amazing” Who Supports Sustainable Organic Foods
Alice Waters is dedicated to improving the health of our children through a number of her projects and foundations.

Alice Waters, at 74, is probably best known for her tremendously successful restaurant “Chez Panisse,” which was a pioneer in using locally grown organic ingredients back in 1971, and her best-selling cookbooks.
But you may not know that Alice is dedicated to improving the health of our children through a number of her projects and foundations. One of them is the Chez Panisse Foundation, whose mission is “to transform public education by using food to teach, nurture, and empower young people.” Her passion for what fresh, sustainable food can bring to children is carried out in the Edible Schoolyard Project and the School Lunch Initiative, where middle school students grow, harvest and prepare foods from their school’s organic garden.
Alice is a devoted activist, working to bring free school meals to all US public school children for their greater health and well-being, food sourced in a sustainable way that benefits the environment as well.
