Pedestrian Killed In San Francisco Identified

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man fatally struck by a car on Sloat Boulevard in San Francisco on Tuesday night has been identified by the medical examiner's office as 47-year-old James Samiere.

Officers responded around 8:10 p.m. to a collision involving a pedestrian at Sloat Boulevard and 36th Avenue, according to police.Samiere, a San Francisco resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said he was struck by a vehicle as it traveled east on Sloat. The 75-year-old man driving the car remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

No other information about the case was immediately released by police.

Sloat Boulevard, a major thoroughfare that also serves as state Highway 35 as it connects Skyline Boulevard from the west to 19th Avenue/state Highway 1 to the east, has been the site of several previous pedestrian deaths, notably that of 17-year-old Hanren Chang in 2013.

That death prompted a new system of beacon lights at Forest View Drive, where Chang was killed.
