On Sept. 8 at 2:05 p.m., officers with the San Francisco Police Department responded to Bay and Kearny streets on a report of an auto burglary that had just occurred.

Officers were able to get a vehicle description of the suspect vehicle, and they located one closely matching that description in the area.

Officers then observed the vehicle travel to several areas and its occupant, later identified as Ward, break into several parked vehicles, police said.

The vehicle then traveled to Leavenworth Street where officers observed a transaction of possible stolen goods with three men and the individual in the suspect vehicle, police said.

The officers detained the three men at the scene while other officers continued to follow the vehicle.

The vehicle then went to Jessie and Mission streets, where the driver parked and exited the vehicle.

Police tried to detain the suspect, but he fled, so a foot pursuit ensued.

Police were ultimately able to detain the suspect in the 800 block of Mission Street.
During an ensuing search of the vehicle, police located and seized several items identified as stolen property, burglary tools and a firearm.

Officers also found evidence that connected the suspect to several auto burglaries that had occurred throughout the day, police said.

Police said several of the stolen items recovered were returned to the victims.
