Rare Tornado Warning | More Rain In Forecast | Antisemitic Bullying

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — As the weekend wraps up, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Northern California's top stories, residents should know that forecasters expect overcast skies and periods of light rain to continue through Wednesday as a weak system approaches the Central Coast.

"Technically Monday is a transition day, but that might not be obvious on the ground," NWS Bay Area forecasters wrote Monday.

"We are wrapping up a fourth day of rain showers triggered by a cold, Alaskan air mass," NWS Bay Area forecasters added. "Through the day, winds will begin to shift from northerly to southwesterly as an approaching low pressure system in the Pacific becomes the dominant feature. Unfortunately, this looks like it will be a seamless baton pass between the two weather systems, and we won't get much of a break from overcast skies and some light rain showers."

A frost advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Monday for the Sonoma coastal range, North Bay interior mountains and North Bay interior valleys.

Temperatures as low as 35 degrees will result in frost formation, according to the NWS. Forecasters advised residents to protect people, pets, plants and pipes from the cold.

In other news, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado Saturday triggered the first Bay Area tornado warning since 2011, according to the NWS. Despite indications seen on radar, the NWS was unable to confirm that a tornado touched down.

An apartment complex fire sent a family to the hospital and displaced others in Santa Clara County. Residents of the building were found temporary housing with the help of the Red Cross and apartment management.

A pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver in the North Bay. Police said the deadly crash was the first fatal traffic collision in Vallejo in 2024.

Protestors calling for a Gaza cease-fire said San Francisco police used pepper spray and batons on pro-Palestinian marchers outside the Israeli consulate Saturday.

Two Jewish civil rights organizations filed a federal civil rights complaint against Berkeley Unified on behalf of Jewish families, charging that their children have been "subjected to severe and persistent harassment and discrimination" since the escalating conflict between Israel and Gaza began in October.

Plus, a California-based company recalled chicken soup dumplings sold at Trader Joe's locations nationwide because the product may contain bits of hard plastic from a permanent marker, according to an announcement.
