San Francisco Giants Oust General Manager

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The general manager of the San Francisco Giants will step down immediately and be reassigned to other responsibilities in the organization, team officials announced Monday.

General Manager Bobby Evans, who also serves as senior vice president, will not return as the general manager next season. His future duties have not been determined, according to team officials.

The Giants have lost more games this season than they have won and the season is nearly over. Last year they had a similar record after World Series wins in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

The team may look for a general manager who will embrace managing with analytics, something the Oakland A's, who earned a playoff berth Monday, have done in the past.

Giants president and CEO Laurence Baer said in a statement, "I want to thank Bobby for his tireless work on behalf of the Giants. He played an important role in our team's success throughout his tenure, which includes
three World Series championships, four NL pennants and eight playoff appearances."

Team officials said they will begin immediately searching for the team's next head of baseball operations.
