CA Renter Offered Shocking Sum To Leave Her Apartment: Reports
The tenant is hesitant about the offer, despite the large sum, according to reports.
SAN FRANCISCO — A San Francisco woman was offered a whopping $35,000 by her landlord to move out and break her lease, according to reports.
Serabeth Mullaney, however, is hesitant about the offer on the grounds that even the large sum might not be worth the headache of looking for a new apartment, KRON reported, adding that the landlord also asked Mullaney to sign a nondisclosure agreement.
Despite the apparent magnitude of the offer, $35,000 is near the city’s historical median for tenant buyouts, according to the California Post, which reported that one couple in their 60s were paid $475,000 to vacate a seven-bedroom rent-controlled apartment.
