Sanctuary Advisory Council Applicants sought
NOAA Greater Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries seek advisory council applicants

Greater Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries are seeking applicants for open positions on both site’s Sanctuary Advisory Councils. The councils ensure public participation in sanctuary management and provide advice to the sanctuary superintendent.
Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary is accepting applications for each of the following seats: Commercial Fishing (primary and alternate positions), Community at Large - San Francisco/San Mateo (primary and alternate positions), Conservation (primary and alternate positions), Maritime Commercial Activities (primary position), Maritime Recreational Activities (alternate position), and Youth (primary and alternate positions).
Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary is accepting applications for each of the following seats: Fishing (two member positions open) and Education (two member positions open).
For both councils, the application period is open as of July 6, 2022 Completed applications are due by August 15, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. Applications not received by this deadline will not be considered. For more information, including a copy of the application, please visit

Selected applicants should expect to serve a three-year term. Advisory council members also serve as liaisons to their represented communities.
Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary advisory council is composed of 10 non-governmental, voluntary members representing commercial fishing, conservation, education, maritime activities, research, youth, and the community-at-large. The advisory council also includes governmental seats representing the California Natural Resources Agency, Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, NOAA Fisheries, National Park Service, United States Coast Guard, and United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary advisory council is composed of 14 non-government, voluntary members representing research, conservation, maritime activities, fishing, education, and the community at-large. The advisory council also includes governmental seats representing NOAA Fisheries, Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, and the United States Coast Guard.
Both sanctuaries actively recruit new members when positions are available. Each council meets quarterly, with special meetings as needed.
Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary protects the wildlife, habitats, and cultural resources of one of the most diverse and bountiful marine environments in the world, an area of 3,295 square miles off the northern and central California coast. The waters within Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary are a nationally significant marine ecosystem, and support an abundance of life, including many threatened and endangered species.
Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuary is a federal marine protected area off the Marin/Sonoma coast managed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The sanctuary is off of the Marin/Sonoma coast and is an offshore ocean jewel protecting unique seafloor features and waters brimming with biodiversity.
