Sen. Dianne Feinstein Hospitalized
She was diagnosed late last month and is expected to fully recover, the senator said.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Sen. Dianne Feinstein has been diagnosed with shingles and is being treated at a San Francisco hospital.
"I was diagnosed over the February recess with a case of shingles," Feinstein said in a prepared statement provided by her office. "I have been hospitalized and am receiving treatment in San Francisco and expect to make a full recovery. I hope to return to the Senate later this month."
Shingles is a painful rash that develops on one side of the face or body and can take up to a month to heal, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Other symptoms can include fever, headache, chills and upset stomach. It is caused by a virus, according to the Mayo Clinic, which noted shingles is not life-threatening but those over 50 are at greater risk of complications.

Feinstein, who is 89, announced in mid-February she would not run for re-election in 2024 but would continue to serve out her current term in office. Since she fell ill, she has missed 12 votes as well as two committee hearings, according to The San Francisco Chronicle.
The senator's barrier-breaking career began more than 50 years ago and she has held a Senate seat since 1992. Democrat U.S. Reps. Barbara Lee, Katie Porter and Adam Schiff are running to fill her seat.
