SF Man Who Died During Standoff Identified

A spokesperson specified that the death did not occur at the hands of police.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — The San Francisco medical examiner's office identified a man who died after a police standoff early Wednesday morning as Alexander Firempong, a 38-year-old San Francisco resident.

The medical examiner is still investigating the cause of Firempong's death.

Firempong made his way into a residence on Dorland Street and attacked a female victim at about 2 a.m., according to San Francisco police Officer Giselle Linnane.

The victim was able to flee the building and call police.

A hostage negotiation team tried to make contact with Firempong after they arrived, but were unsuccessful.

They believed he had barricaded himself.

A police tactical unit entered the residence between 5 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. and found Firempong dead. Linnane specified that the death did not occur at the hands of police.

The case is currently under investigation.
