SF School Honored By State For Arts Education
Commodore Sloat Elementary School was highlighted by the state.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA —Elementary schools in five different counties have captured exemplary awards from the California Department of Education.
The schools already had been selected as distinguished schools, and applied separately for these honors, education officials said. Three Bay Area schools got awards for exemplary arts education, and two around the state got awards for exemplary physical activity and nutrition.
"We know that school offerings outside of core academic subject areas, in addition to sparking creative minds and producing healthy bodies, keep students engaged in school," Tom Torlakson, the state schools
superintendent, said in a statement.
