SAN FRANCISCO — Skater power comes to San Francisco's newly renovated UN Plaza this Saturday from 2-4 p.m.

Local skateboard and apparel company Create has partnered with Market Street Arts to produce the city's first ever Create Skate Jam. Everyone in the skater community is invited to come from sidewalk to center stage to enjoy the city's new $2 million skate park.

There will be a competition open to all ages and ability levels, with cash prizes of up to $500 and giveaways from the skater-owned and operated Create shop. Spectators can also try out new chess and ping pong tables. Create's Richie Hernandez will host the event, with live music from DJ Goon and Hoopty.

Donations will be collected on-site for the Create Toy Drive, benefitting local families in partnership with Code Tenderloin, a collective of city agencies and local businesses that help people secure employment, housing and other life-changing essentials.

Skaters who come with a donation might roll home with new T-shirts or shoes.
