Sneaker Waves, Rip Currents Possible In San Francisco
The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazards statement for Monday, including San Francisco.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A beach hazards statement for sneaker waves and rip currents remains in effect through midday Monday along coastal areas from the North Bay to Big Sur.
The National Weather Service is warning beachgoers never to turn their back on the sea; a deceptively calm ocean with long lulls between large waves can knock people off jetties and outcroppings.
Offshore buoys are reporting wave heights of 7 to 8 feet, at 17 to 18 seconds, presenting a threat of sneaker waves and rip currents, the weather service said Monday morning.

The areas affected are the North Bay including Point Reyes National Seashore, southern Monterey Bay and the Big Sur coast, San Francisco peninsula coast, San Francisco and northern Monterey Bay.
The beach hazards statement is in effect until 1 p.m. Monday.
