Souvla To Open Dogpatch Restaurant With Extended Greek Menu

This will be the fifth San Francisco location for the "Make It Nice and Be Nice" Greek eatery, first launched in Hayes Valley in 2014.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Souvla, a Greek eatery with a "Make It Nice and Be Nice" motto, will open its fifth San Francisco restaurant in June in the city's Dogpatch neighborhood with an expanded menu of Greek wines, mezé and small plates.

"I’ve always loved the Dogpatch," said Charles Bililies, Souvla founder and CEO. "The neighborhood has long served as home to many of San Francisco’s most beloved makers and innovators, and we’re excited and honored to be a part of its future.”

The new Souvla is moving into the former Magnolia Brewing Co. space, and will be the company's largest restaurant to-date, including a 10-seat marble bar.

Since opening its first location in 2014 in San Francisco's Hayes Valley, Souvla has boasted the country’s only all-Greek beverage list, down to its sparkling water and iced tea, and continues to champion Greek wines, according to the operators.

At the Dogpatch site, wines, including some unique and rare selections, will be available by the glass. Among options: “island whites” of Santorini and full-bodied, red wines from Greece’s Nemea region, plus the admittedly harder-to-pronounce, Greek varietals of xinomavro, moschofilero, assyrtiko, agiorgitiko, and vidiano.

The restaurant's traditional menu will be served, with such Souvla classics as lamb, pork, chicken and white sweet- potato sandwiches and salads with yogurt sauces and Souvla’s signature Granch, pita bread, Greek fries, avgolemono soup (egg-lemon soup with chicken and rice) and frozen Greek yogurt desserts.

And for the new location, the culinary team at Souvla — which translates to a meat-roasting “spit” or “skewer” in Greek — is developing an extended bar-style menu with traditional Greek hand pies, dips, and mezes.

Souvla Dogpatch will be at 2505 3rd St., and open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Other San Francisco locations are at 517 Hayes St. in Hayes Valley, 531 Divisadero St. in NOPA, 758 Valencia St. in the Mission and 2272 Chestnut St.in the Marina district. A sixth site is planned for August at the Marin Country Mart in Larkspur.
