Students To Create Opera This School Year

Registration is open right now for interested students.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA —Some San Francisco students will be able to add opera writing and performing at the city's famous Grace Cathedral to their resumes starting this fall.

San Francisco playwright and librettist Erin Bregman in 2011 founded Little Opera, a youth program that teaches every step of the opera creation process to promote diversity, imagination and ambition.

Little Opera at Grace is a new partnership between the program and the church atop Nob Hill that will host K-8 students after school for nine months as they collaborate on writing and performing their own original opera.

composing, singing and acting," Bregman said. "We're also teaching our students about collaboration, and what it means to take on a giant, ambitious project as part of a community."

The program begins Sept. 9, and registration began on July 1 at www.littleopera.org. Those interested can find tuition and scholarship information on the website as well.
