Levi’s Stadium hosted the big game in 2016, when the Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers, the website reported, noting the region was also home to Super Bowl XIX in 1985 when the 49ers took the Lombardi Trophy over the Miami Dolphins.

“It's an honor to bring an event like the Super Bowl to your town,” 49ers Owner and CEO Jed York said, according to NFL.com. “I want to thank the ownership for believing in the Bay Area and this is going to be a great place for us to showcase the best of Northern California."
