Suspect Killed In San Francisco Officer Involved Shooting

The police department reports that the man held his wife and two young children hostage, firing multiple shots inside an apartment.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — San Francisco Police report an officer-involved shooting in the Nob Hill neighborhood Sunday morning. A man who had held his wife and two young children hostage was killed.

The first report came in at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, when police received a report of domestic violence involving a weapon at an apartment in the first block of Salmon Street, according to San Francisco police Sgt. Michael Andraychak.

Officers arrived at the scene and heard yelling. At 11:45 p.m. a shot was fired from inside the apartment, Andraychak said. The suspect would not release his family, including the 5 and 11 years old children, Andraychak said.

Police began negotiating with the suspect, but at 2:50 a.m. today, the suspect stopped negotiating and a shot was fired inside the apartment, Andraychak said.

That's when officers entered the apartment, and the officer-involved shooting occurred, Andraychak said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead, Andraychak said.

All three victims, the mother and both children, were rescued and received treated from paramedics at the scene.

According to Andraychak, the shooting remains under investigation by the San Francisco Police Department's internal affairs division, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, the Department of Police Accountability
and the San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office.
