Suspected Attacker of Nancy Pelosi's Husband Returns To Court
David DePape, 42, waived his right to a speedy trial within 60 days of Wednesday.

SAN FRANCISCO — The man accused of attacking House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's husband with a hammer pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges that he was ordered to stand trial for earlier this month, the San Francisco District Attorney's Office said.
At a preliminary hearing on Dec. 14, David DePape, 42, was held over for trial on all state charges he is facing, including attempted murder, residential burglary, elder abuse, false imprisonment and assault with a deadly weapon.
He faces similar federal charges of assault and attempted kidnapping, which he also pleaded not guilty to last month.

DePape also waived his right to a speedy trial within 60 days of Wednesday.
His next date in San Francisco Superior Court is scheduled for Feb. 23 to set a date for a jury trial.
DePape was arrested at the Pelosi residence in San Francisco on Oct. 28 shortly before 2 a.m. after an alleged kidnapping attempt. Officers said Paul Pelosi suffered a skull fracture after DePape swung a hammer to his head once police arrived to the scene.
