SAN FRANCISCO, CA â The onslaught of job losses that has plagued the Bay Area in recent months continued this week, as companies with local ties announced thousands more cuts in the tech industry and beyond.
Luxury electric car-maker Lucid will reduce its workforce by 18 percent, cutting about 1,300 employees, the Newark-based company confirmed Tuesday, citing changing business needs, productivity improvements, cost management and restructuring.
Game developer Electronic Arts has disclosed plans to restructure teams, assess real estate and move away from certain projects â decisions that are expected to affect about 6 percent of its workforce, Chairman and CEO Andrew Wilson said in a letter to employees.

âWhere we can, we are providing opportunities for our colleagues to transition onto other projects,â Wilson said in the letter. âWhere thatâs not possible, we are providing severance pay and additional benefits such as health care and career transition services.â
The Redwood City-based company has 12,900 employees, roughly 1,700 of whom are local, SFGate reported. If 6 percent were laid off, that would total 774 people.

Biotech company Genentech will shutter its South San Francisco production facility and cut 265 workers as part of its long-term plans, the San Francisco Chronicle reported over the weekend.
San Jose-based streaming device manufacturer Roku is restructuring to lower expense growth and prioritize projects with a higher anticipated return on investment in a move expected to affect roughly 6 percent of its workforce â or about 200 people, the company disclosed to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Semiconductor company Marvell Technology will cut almost 100 jobs in Santa Clara, according to the East Bay Times, which reported Marvell is laying off 133 people across the state after recent revenue losses.
Outside the tech industry, furniture company RH, which is based in Corte Madera, cut around 440 workers last week due to restructuring, according to SFGate.
Other recently disclosed cuts include 130 Glassdoor jobs in San Francisco, 65 Microsoft jobs in Mountain View and San Jose, and 59 Natera jobs in San Carlos.
