San Jose Police Arrest Suspects for Armed Robberes (sanjoseinside.com) — San Jose police say they've arrested four suspects tied to a late‑May armed robbery on Monterey Road and a separate June–July robbery spree at smoke shops, convenience stores and motels across the city. Detectives used search warrants and license plate reader data to recover stolen merchandise and evidence, with all suspects now booked into Santa Clara County facilities on robbery charges.
   

2. Head of San Jose's police watchdog office is out (sanjosespotlight.com) — San Jose's Independent Police Auditor Eddie Aubrey will retire at month's end after being placed on leave, prompting a national search for a new watchdog over police misconduct investigations. Deputy Auditor Dwight White is stepping in temporarily as reform advocates renew calls to expand the office's limited authority, especially after the City Council previously rejected broader oversight of use-of-force cases.
   

3. Thousands of union workers in San Jose to vote on strike authorization (nbcbayarea.com) — Thousands of San Jose city workers are voting this week on whether to authorize a strike, which could temporarily close libraries, disrupt community programs and affect services at the city's Animal Care Center and San Jose Mineta International Airport. Union members argue the city's proposed raises lag behind rising costs and want safeguards to prevent AI-related layoffs, while Mayor Matt Mahan says San Jose must live within its budget.
   

4. San Jose sees the steepest drop in young children among major U.S. cities, new data shows (wheninyourstate.com) — San Jose has seen the sharpest drop in young children of any large U.S. city, with kids under 5 down 34% and all under 18 down 20% since 2015. Analysts tie the trend to high housing costs, lower fertility and families leaving big cities, raising long‑term questions for local schools, funding and the future workforce.
   

5. Clothing store Coldwater in San Jose's Japantown to close (nbcbayarea.com) — A beloved clothing shop in San Jose's Japantown, Coldwater, will close its Fifth and Jackson location on October 31 after the building was sold, forcing the three Nemedez brothers to search for a new home for their brand. The store has become a hub for young shoppers and community arts, blending Filipino cultural influences with streetwear, and many locals say they're heartbroken to see it go.
