• San Marcos holds groundbreaking for new fire station (thecoastnews.com) — San Marcos has broken ground on its new Fire Station 5 near Palomar College, funded by the city's Measure Q sales tax and expected to open around mid-2028. The $25 million station will house a new state-funded fire truck, an ambulance, and five-person crews, aiming to cut emergency response times for nearby neighborhoods.

• The 318 Literary Journal Needs Your Voice! (csusmchronicle.com) — San Marcos creatives connected to Cal State San Marcos are invited to submit poetry, prose, or art to Journal 318, the campus's student-run literary journal, now through November 15. The class-produced publication welcomes work not only from CSUSM students but from all college students and graduates, offering hands-on experience in editing, design, and publishing while showcasing diverse artistic voices.

• Ibrahim Al-Marashi: Crime Bulletin Reflection (csusmchronicle.com) — At Cal State San Marcos, history professor Ibrahim Al‑Marashi is using his outdoor Women and Gender in the Middle East class to unpack recent campus crime bulletins about sexual assaults in the dorms.
