Suspected Gas Station Robbers Arrested In Fairfax

Leonardo Geovanni Flores, 21, of Fairfax, and Calvin Orlando Franklin, 30, of San Anselmo, were arrested on two counts each of robbery.

SAN RAFAEL, CA – Two suspects in two gas station robberies in San Rafael were arrested Friday morning after police spotted them in Fairfax, authorities said.

Leonardo Geovanni Flores, 21, of Fairfax, and Calvin Orlando Franklin, 30, of San Anselmo, were arrested on two counts each of robbery. Franklin was also charged with allegedly operating a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Both were booked into Marin County Jail.

According to the San Rafael Police Department, the first robbery was reported at 5:33 a.m. Friday, when police received a call that two suspects threatened a clerk and stole several packs of cigarettes from a gas station convenience store at Second and Irwin streets on the east side of downtown San Rafael.

Just before 7 a.m., police received another call that two suspects stole cigarettes from the gas station convenience store at Del Presidio Boulevard and Las Gallinas Avenue. Both suspects allegedly physically assaulted the clerk, who was not seriously injured, police said.

Several witnesses remained at the scene and provided police with a description of the suspects and their vehicle, according to police. One witness captured a photo of the suspects as they fled the scene.

After a countywide all-points-bulletin was sent out, Fairfax police recognized the suspects from the description and the photo as the same pair involved in a traffic stop the previous day, according to San Rafael police.

Fairfax police searched for the suspects, spotting the vehicle on Park Road in Fairfax, according to police. Police then detained the two suspects until San Rafael police arrived to arrest them.

"The San Rafael Police Department would like to extend its appreciation to the witnesses who remained at the scene and to the Fairfax Police Department for its assistance in apprehending these two suspects," San Rafael Sgt. Justin Graham in a statement.
