Drake High School Music Program Triples in Size
Music Department Seeking Donations for the March 31 “Playathon” Musical Performance & Auction at San Geronimo Golf Club
3 years ago the Drake High School Music Program had 40 students and 1 teacher. Today it has 120 students, 3 teachers and a thriving, diverse selection of classes. Funding for the program is largely dependent upon donations from the community. The next fund raising event is the Annual Playathon Auction at the San Geronimo Golf club on Saturday evening March 31st, 2012. The Drake music teachers are asking for donations to maintain this great program.

"Parallel to our achievements in improving the academic standards of this public school, we are happy to see steady growth in the arts." explained Don Drake, school principal. He continued, "We believe that the arts program helps teach kids healthy ways to express themselves and is overall an asset to the community. Chip and his team have done a great job expanding this program and we hope for continued support from the community."
The Drake music program is the vision of Chip Boaz. Mr. Boaz does double duty teaching both Music and Technology credit classes (a more common parallel than one might expect). He teaches, acts as the "roadie" (carrying equipment) and even joins the band when one of the student bassists has the flu. Through donations he was able to bring in a vocal specialist, Amanda Addleman. Ms. Addleman is a rising Marin performer who frequently plays with her band in local venues. She has even won some gigs featuring student singers at Yet Wah Chinese restaurant on 4th in San Rafael several times a year.
